I've been trying to put together the best resources to answer all the question about the 35mm Adaptors. If you watch the video above you're going to receive the best introduction about the subject, after that you can either...
I am still in shock for this magnificent idea, I'm still processing how a guerrilla film can open in thousands of screens outside the system, and the answer is right there in front of our eyes: the people.
I need to interview these guys, I'm working on that, but in the meantime you can watch the video or reading The Pitch.
With the platform of The Brave New Theaters (TBNT), you can become an exhibitor, you can host a film party for you and your 8 friends in your living room, or you can go to your closest library and ask the director if they would be interested in projecting a movie for the community around your neighborhood.
Well, a lot of people did that, actually more than 7,000 so far.
Right now, filmmakers have the chance to take destiny in their own hands thanks to this innovative way of distribution.
Stay tune I will bring more in depth information about TBNT soon.
Buddhist Filmmaker Sarah Fisher shared her journey of four years to finish Meditate and Destroy about the journey of author of Dharma Punx, Noah Levine whom after a self-destructive adolescence of criminal activity and substance abuse, now teaches the path of Buddhism. A documentary about punk rock, spirituality and inner rebellion.
After reading Noah's book Dharma Punx, she felt that she needed to tell that story, so she contacted him to explore the possibility of doing a documentary about him, his response was "I've a book release party next Friday, bring your camera".
Sarah talks about her struggle as a guerrilla filmmaker and how sometimes you need to have a tough resolve, proving yourself again and again, about her DIY distribution strategy, about her disappointment in the festivals and the new ways of distribution.
Listen the interview right here.
If you want to learn about future screenings or simply support the film (They still need to clear the music rights, and that cost money), there are different ways, you can pick your favorite, through their website, facebook group, myspace page, follow them through twitter
You're broke and can help? not a problem if you go to Meditate and Destroy profile in Our Stage and become a fan of the film, they'll receive $4 and you will receive a free pass to see the movie during the month of September! Learn how to do this properly.
This is really a fantastic way to resolve those underwater shots, just watch the video. I didn't have all the tools to do it, but the guys at Home Depot cut the box for me. The camera in the video is medium size, but those ammo boxes come in all sizes!
You finish your short film and now you want the world to watch it, ok which site is the best? youtube, google video, myspace, revver, veoh, vimeo, metacafe? Because maybe you feel that you don't have time to put it on all of them, well you can through the dynamic interfazof tubemogul and on the top of that they give you reports of how your video is doing in every single site.
Apple is totally indifferent to your needs, I tried everything in order to get in touch with someone capable to explain me why is virtually impossible for a single filmmaker to sell his or her movie on iTunes... I'm still waiting for the answer.
It was frustrating, I mean, I own a Mac. I use Final Cut. I have an iPhone and an iPod, but it's ok I'll try to explain how to avoid my frustrations.
So let's get into business! It's not that easy.
Guess what? Your worst nightmare: you need a distributor! if this is a turn off try the interfaz of CreateSpace to sell your film through Amazon Unbox, the first runner up on Video Downloads.
If you still want to sell or rent your film on iTunes here is the list of digital distributors for Guerrilla Filmmakers...
I think the success of Guerrilla Filmmaking (GF) it's always being in the word of mouth, now more than ever you need people committed to your concept, but how you do that? Where to start? GF is an organic process, you can create a blog for your film and make people participate, listen to their feedback, their ideas, make them part of the process, get them involve, then you will premiere your film and all those 1,000 fans will be at the theater the first weekend, for a Guerrilla Filmmaker that's priceless, in all the sense of the word, it means the world for the filmmaker and you don't have to spend a penny!
Enjoy the experts in building audiences in this two videos.
DIY DAYS LA - When the Audience Takes Control - panel
A few posts ago I started smirking while I was reading all this news about how indie films are in crisis, the reason is simple, now more than ever, the Guerrilla Fillmmaker has all the weapons to have a prolific career and live out of making films. Not that I'm happy about the Indie Film future, I just think it's a storm in a glass of water. A few years ago when all the big studios started to open independent divisions (Fox Searchlight, Warner Independent, Focus Features...) everybody was saying how the independent films were going down since they were not independent anymore, they were studio controlled too. Now that all that divisions are closing, there's another crisis because they are closing them?
I'm trying to pack this blog with a lot of DIY gadgets, this $45 Grip Dolly it's beautiful, really easy to make and can add some great shots to your film. I have to thank Liza Trainer, the creator of this little but so useful gadget for her great ability and vision.
It's the same, Guerrilla Filmmaking refers to a form of independent filmmaking characterized by low budgets, skeleton crews, and simple props using whatever is available. Often scenes are shot quickly in real locations without any warning, and without obtaining permission from the owners of the locations.
Guerrilla filmmaking is usually done by independent filmmakers because they don’t have the budget to get permits, rent out locations, or build expansive sets. Also studios tend not to use guerrilla filmmaking tactics because they could be sued, fined, or get their reputation hurt.
