Over a month ago, right before I started the crazyness with subHysteria, I met with Jamay Liu and Tony Cheng from Tripfilms.

The meeting took place in their unique office located in the east village: "Gramstand Cafe", a cute little place with full WiFi internet connection.  It allows the six people team from Tripfilms to use their place as headquarters.

Tripfilms is... I’ve to stop here, only to preface that something so avant-garde that does not have real competition is difficult yet easy to explain.  Trip Films is the ultimate video reference for the out of ordinary tourist.  For that person that is not only interested in the mainstream landmarks, but is also eager to extend their experience to those hidden and underrated places that are out of the flyers’ kiosk in every city hotel. They start every video with a "Travel Quote", no wonder their tagline is Travel Inspired, it couldn’t be better. I am one of those travelers that really enjoys to live my adventure as a local, and right now, I’ve to say, thanks to Tripfilms, it is really simple. The best thing is that you can find all the mainstream attractions and landmarks without leaving the site, also.

I am still in shock for this magnificent idea, I'm still processing how a guerrilla film can open in thousands of screens outside the system, and the answer is right there in front of our eyes: the people.

Yesterday I was blogging about how the distribution and exhibition world is changing... today I'm using my little internet corner as a window of exhibition, isn't that fantastic?

In 1990 Whit Stillman debuted with his film Metropolitan, it wasn't easy to distribute at all. In a recent interview for indieWIRE Stillman shows his gratitude to everybody that make the limited distribution possible.

17 years later the films it's available, for a few weeks, to everyone that has access to a computer, so, put it in your hulu queue or just hit play up here.

• Made for a reported $250,000, starring a full cast of young unknowns, and consisting primarily of one long scene after another of rich kids sitting in a palatial Upper East Side apartment discussing Jane Austen, Charles Fourier, their mostly unfashionable morals and fears of failure, while dressed in evening clothes, Metropolitan played in theaters for seven months, eventually grossing $3 million and earning Stillman an Oscar nomination (he lost to Bruce Joel Rubin, screenwriter of Ghost).

Dogme 95 and the Vow of Chastity

Dogme 95 used to be an avant-garde filmmaking movement. Started in 1995 by the Danish directors Lars von Trier and Thomas Vinterberg with the signing of the Dogme 95 Manifesto and the Vow of Chastity. They were later joined by fellow Danish directors Kristian Levring and Søren Kragh-Jacobsen, to form a group sometimes known as the Dogme 95 Collective or the Dogme Brethren. This movement was officially dissolve in 2005, although different filmmakers from all over the world keep using the vow of chastity as a principle, and keep submitting films to the website of the movement, Wes Anderon's Rushmore is Dogme Film # 180. So far there are 276 officially recognize Dogme Films.
